County Coastal Hike

Challenge 350

In 2007 Scouting is 100 years old and to celebrate the fact each District is putting on an activity plus the County is putting on 4 during the year. This means there will be 12 large events happening, one for each month.

To make them more accessible to everyone County are going to subsidise each event so that the cost per participant is reduced or the activity might even be free.

To be able to do this there are events happening in 2006 that are being used as fund raisers. One of them is Challenge 350.

The coastal footpath of Cornwall has been measured at 350 miles and County have divided it up into 62 bits. Each Group is being invited to walk a portion of the Path either on Saturday 30th September or Sunday 1st October. If they want they can make a weekend of it and walk on both days.

So on the weekend of 30th September, 1st October all the Scout Groups in Cornwall are going to walk part of the Coastal Path. It will be on a first come, first served basis to which bit each Group gets but our District includes the Lizard so we have plenty of choice.

Each Group has been asked to fundraise and the money raised by each of them will be divided up. 40% will go back to the Group, 30% to a nominated charity and 30% to help pay for the County events. The nominated charity is the Pirate Trust For Children.

STOP PRESS

On Sunday 1st October 7 Group Members, 1 Parent and 1 Dog walked from Gwithian to Hayle along the beach. One of our Scouts even turned out on her birthday. The wind was blowing a real howler, at least force 8. They all made it to the finish where they were treated to a BBQ. No-one had a camera so we haven't any photos. Some money was raised  in sponsorship but not much as we didn't get the forms until late.
