The 1980-90's

One change made in the 1980's was the start of the Beaver Scouts. They had first formed un-officially in Northern Ireland in 1963 under the title "Little Brothers" and were eventually recognised in the Province during 1975 using the name Beavers. It took the rest of the Country 7 years to catch up and start Beaver Colonies and 11 years for them to be officially recognised.

1986 also saw the first girls being allowed to join Venture Scout Units, but it takes to 1990 before girls can join Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

The end of the 80's sees a change in the badges that the Cubs and Scouts can earn.

Cubs had been able to earn the Bronze, Silver and Gold Arrow Awards.

Bronze                                     Silver                                  Gold

They also earned the Link Badge when they moved up to Scouts

The Arrow Awards were replaced by the Cub Scout Award, The Adventure Award and The Adventure Crest Award, each slightly harder to gain.

Also a lot of the Proficiency Badges were re-vamped.

The Scouts had a new set of Awards which were also staged.

Scout Award                    Pathfinder Award             Explorer Award         Chief Scout's Award

Scouts Could also earn anything up to 100 Proficiency Badges.

These new Badges were kept until 2002 when a complete transformation was effected in the UK.
